The Royal and Prior Comprehensive School
We are a co-educational school based in Raphoe, Co. Donegal with a proud Christian ethos. We recently celebrated our 400 year anniversary, but did you know that we are also Donegals’s only Day and boarding school? Our students hail from Inishowen, Inver and everywhere in between and we also cater for International students. At The Royal and Prior we are proud to offer a home from home for all our students.
Our Mission Statement
As a Christian School we will enable all students to achieve their full potential in a happy, secure and respectful environment. To this end we foster an atmosphere of learning and responsibility.
What we offer
At The Royal and Prior we encourage the highest possible academic standards for all our students across a wide range of subjects. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum over a six-year framework and recently we have received funding which will see our students benefiting from three new science labs, new art and construction rooms and a state of the art gymnasium.
Our Junior Cycle programme is extensive and we are one of the few schools in Donegal to offer Animation and Coding to our students. Our Transition Year programme is catered to the strengths and interests of each cohort of students and offers students the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves. Our Leaving Certificate Programme offers everything from Modern Foreign Languages to Agricultural Science, something to cater for every interest and every career goal.
Making the transition easier
At The Royal and Prior we understand how challenging the move from Primary school to Secondary school can be. In order to ensure a smooth transition we offer comprehensive induction and peer mentoring programmes. All our First Year students also have the opportunity to sample every optional subject as part of our Taster Programme to help them make an informed decision that suits them best.
Learning support
The Royal and Prior prides itself on being an inclusive school and our AEN Department offers a wide range of supports to our students. Previously students have benefited from adapted curriculums, learning support classes, SNA support and the use of assistive technology. Our approach is student centred, all incoming First Year students are assessed by the Learning Support Team in order to identify their strengths and needs and to design a personalised plan to assist them on their educational journey. For the new academic year 2022/23 we are delighted to announce that the Department has sanctioned the opening of a special ASD class for those students that would benefit from a more concentrated and personalised approach.
Outside the classroom
We place great emphasis on all aspects of our students’ educational experience and we encourage our students to take part in the huge range of sporting, creative and technological co-curricular activities we offer.
